Your video cards drivers likely got borked.
Assuming your using winxp since you said nothing:
Start--> Programs --> accessories --> system tools --> sys info.
Find out what card you have, and punch it in google to find support for it, or possibly reinstall the drivers. Either that or simply get a new video card.

Oh wow...I can think of like 5 or 6 possibilities right off the top of my head. You need to provide more details man. Something like...do you hear the "beep" sound that usually occur when you start the PC. Do you hear any error warning coming from the system speaker that's usually a series of short blast of "beeps". Do you hear your harddrive spinning as it "suppose" to start the operating system?

I would try going into yr bios and setting a fail safe setting first. If that doesn't work remove the card and plug it back in again (while the pc is off of course )
If you have on board video working then I doubt it is anything serious.

This same thing happened to me about 2 weeks ago, worked fine when i shut it off but the next day the computer just wasnt recognizing it. The fan on the card still worked and everything just thats it. I reinstalled every driver i could find for my bios, mobo, and card and reinserted it but still no luck. BTW i have a ATI x1300pro and its worked fine for me for the last year. Im also using my onboard one now and i cant play anything really, how does one reset their bio to fail safe. I've tried just about everything except that, resetting the cmos or something and reformating the pc which i dont want to >.<

OMG this can not be just our fricken card!!! Theres got to be a bug in the system something to do with a windows update i just dont know what to do!! I also system restored and to no avail, ok here goes last thing that i can ask you what motherboard do you have? I believe mine is a Geforce6100-M9 and for both of our cards to go out at the same time is baffling. Im going to contact support again telling them im not the only one its happening to and i want answers. Im not going to send my card to them just so they can say its fine!!
Bah thanks for the info, now we just have to find a solution, cause i was about to buy a new one and now im gonna wait.

My ticket has changed with the ATI support so i cant relay the exact words at the moment. All they did basically upto this point was give a warranty service request form (which is absolutley useless). I reopned the ticket stating that another user has the exact same card and same exact problem. I only get one comment per result so i have to wait for a reply to even state further that we have the same computer also. I'm gonna try emachines support next right now and see what they say.
EDIT- Ok 20 min in already were gonna try a dafault bios
Wish me luck!

Well it didnt work =( i chose default bios setting and the card still doesnt work. I cant even install the catylst drivers unless theres an ATI product card visible, it just says cant do it without the required software/hardware. The emachine support guy didnt have anything to say more then that and have you tryed the card in another computer cause i think its your card =/. Well he said get back in touch with the card manufacturer so one last time i'll try that and then if that dont work then im gonna buy an nVidia card next time.
Edit- I need to find my reboot cd, maybe im just gonna have to restore the computer to day 1. Anyhow im gonna try again tomorrow and see if i cant get a response from ATI. Later.
